Alexandra, Jeremy & Zoe

I've known Alex since my 7th grade talent show (we called her Ali then). The little, short haired, blonde pixie donned her ballet attire and danced to The Beatles "Come Together". I wasn't nearly as cool as this mini Beatles fan, and didn't have anywhere near the excellent taste in music that she did (and still does) but we became friends anyway and have stayed friends since.

Dick and I photographed Alex and Jeremy's wedding back in, woah, 2008 - it really doesn't seem like it's been that long. Now things are getting even more exciting for these two as they became the legal guardians of little Zoe. Skipping straight to the toddler stage has to have been a huge adjustment but these two are just rolling with it - and are obviously so enchanted with little Zoe. And what a personality this one has!

Alex and Jeremy, thank you for allowing me to capture a little slice of your life and for the delicious brunch and coffee too (Alex is an excellent cook). You are so good with Zoe and she is so so lucky to have you two. I wish the three of you, and your two other babies, the happiest of holidays and look forward to capturing more photos of you as your family grows up. :-)

William, Connor, Samantha & their parents

Meredith and I have been friends for a while now. And I have to say, she's one of the best friends to have because she laughs at ALL of my jokes and makes me feel like the wittiest person in the world. I AM the wittiest person in the world... right...? But besides being fun and a great sushi companion (few people I know are willing to unabashedly consume quite as much as we do) I also know that she's a no nonsense woman with great taste. You should see her home! I mention this because until recently she had another family photographer and decided to try me out instead - I'll admit I was intimidated. But after having such a great time photographing Samatha earlier this year I knew I would enjoy just hanging out with the family and getting a few fun shots while I was at it.

So... I thought getting an entire bridal party looking at the camera at the same time was tough, but it really doesn't compare to the challenge with little ones... THREE of them! I admire people who make family photography their primary focus (pardon the pun) - it takes skill and a way with kids that I have to work really hard at, having none of my own.

As challenging as it was to get all of their attention at the same time, we got some good ones (thanks to the antics of mom and dad standing behind me). These kids are super fun and happy, with such unique personalities. I think we captured a lot of that here. It turned out to be a great afternoon.

And here she is. The plan was for me to just capture the kids, but I couldn't resist. Meredith - you're such a beautiful person and I feel lucky to be your friend. Thank you for asking me to photograph your little treasures. I mean it when I say I had a great time! Ralph - you're pretty great too. Next time maybe we'll get more of you. :-)

Doug, Susana & Angie

You may recognize Doug and Susana from previous posts, when they asked me to take maternity photos and later when Angie was only a few months old. But just look at her now! She's grown up so much since the last time I photographed her- and what a little cutie!

We had a great time at Balboa Park and Angie just couldn't get enough of all of the "cookies" wandering by. "Cookie" is her word for pretty much any pet - but especially dogs - due to another Cookie that she knows. So if you see her looking away from the camera in these photos, it's a pretty good guess there is a dog somewhere out of the frame. :-)

Almost as cute as Angie herself is the way mom and dad look at her.

Susana and Doug - thank you so much for asking me to take pictures of your beautiful family once again. You know I love taking pictures and I'm always honored when close friends ask to be photography clients. I really loved spending the morning with you guys. And besides, you're good lookin' people - so you make it easy. ;-) Let's do it again soon!

January and Erik

I had such a great time with January and Erik during their Coronado Island engagement session a few months ago, and had been looking forward to their 9-10-11 wedding ever since. Imagine Hollywood glamour with a tattooed rockabilly edge and you'll get an idea of what this wedding was all about. Black and white attire, vibrant red roses, and skull accessories set the mood for the day, which was a party from beginning to end.

January and Erik were married at the NTC Promenade at Liberty Station in San Diego. The ceremony was at the North Chapel and the reception was right next door at the McMillin Event Center.

January's red roses were such a beautiful, deep red.

Amy got some great shots of the guys before the ceremony.

You see what I mean when I say Hollywood. January, you're amazing.

Even the candid photos look great.

For the record, climbing to the top of the pyramid was January's idea, not mine. But I'm so happy she did it. :-)

We took the girls to the Corvette Diner for a cocktail and a few photos.

Amy helped to capture some of these black and red details.

January and Erik - you two are so fantastically original and it was so much fun to spend the day with you and your friends. Thank you so much for allowing Amy and I to help capture your unique and stylish day. It was one we definitely won't forget!

Stephanie and Adam

The sun was just starting to peek through the marine layer when we arrived at the Ocean View Villas to photograph Stephanie and Adam's wedding that morning. The waves crashed on the rocks below, filling the air with a cool, salty mist. The place bustled as family members finished up the final touches for the big event that would be starting soon.

One of Stephanie's bridesmaids created all of the fresh, cheerful bouquets that morning.

This was the first time I had been to this venue (Dad had been there before) and I have to say - it is now up there with my favorites in San Diego.

As much as he "loves" it, I just can't resist posting one of these every once in a while. I think he's really got the move down - and is an excellent director!

Those colors with this setting make me smile. As do these ladies themselves. I had such a great time spending the day with them!

Heather and Jermaine

Not long ago I was able to take Heather and Jermaine's engagement photos. When I got home that evening and started looking through the photos, the thing that struck me most was the way that their closeness so clearly came through in the photos. And now as I've pulled together some of my favorite images of their wedding for this blog post, I'm finding the same thing. As much as I'd like to pat myself on the back for being such a great photographer, I think these two have such a strong connection that they can't help but show it... to everyone around them.

I love the unique color combination of this wedding: navy and bright pink. The two colors are a striking combination.

I love these photos that Amy took while Jermaine and his groomsmen were getting dressed. They look like they come from another time.

Amy also captured the two photos below of beautiful stained glass windows.

Danielle & Adam

After having so much fun with these two on their engagement shoot, I could hardly wait for their wedding . . . and I have to say, I was not disappointed. This group definitely knows how to have a great time and Amy and I had every bit as much fun capturing all of the action.

Michelle and Stephen

They say that good things come to those who wait and from what I can see, the love between Michelle and Steve is indeed a very good thing. Eva, Michelle's maid of honor, and Eva's husband introduced Steve to Michelle and after just one blind double date the two immediately knew they had finally found each other. Having the opportunity to photograph these two was such a gift, on so many levels. Thank you Michelle and Steve for allowing Amy and I to be a part of what was a uniquely sentimental and special day.

Michelle and Steve were married at Infusion Church in Escondido, California.

Their reception was hosted by our good friends at the Doubletree Golf Resort in San Diego.

After hair and makeup at the family home, the bridal party finished getting ready at the church preschool.

Side note: Mom and I sing with Bill in the Rancho Bernardo Chorale.

Before Bill carried on the English tradition of singing to his daughter during the ceremony, he explained that he commissioned this special song "Michelle" written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney years ago to be used for this very occasion. Not only is Bill quite the crooner, he also has a fantastic sense of humor. More importantly, he adores his little girl. I definitely have a soft spot for anyone who treasures his daughter as much as this man does.

The unique bouquets and flower arrangements were absolutely perfect.

Michelle's parents, Bill and Yvonne, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on the same day. Congratulations!

You two really are such a great couple. I'm so happy to know you.

I noticed during the last song that Michelle plucked the petals off a rose. While I was off in the distance and am not positive what this was all about, I can go out on a limb and say that yes, he does indeed love you. :-)

To Bill: Thank you so much for reaching out to us. I am well aware of the fact that we would never have had the opportunity to meet Michelle and Steve if it weren't for you. If I learned anything about you by spending this time with you and your loved ones it is that family is precious to you and I am honored to have had the privilege of helping to document such a special day for your family.

And once again, thank you Michelle and Steve for letting us into your lives to help capture these beautiful memories. Amy and I thoroughly enjoyed our day with you and we wish you the happiest of lives together.

January and Erik: Coronado Island

Meet January and Erik. I had met January before and I knew that she would be a beautiful subject, but beyond that, I really didn't know what to expect as I hadn't yet met Erik and had never seen January "dolled-up". I was way more than pleasantly surprised when this classic couple walked into the Hotel Del Coronado lobby to meet me for their engagement shoot. Why you ask? Well, I think the photos will speak for themselves.

January and Erik - you two are the coolest. Thanks for a great evening! I can hardly wait for 9-10-11!

Danielle and Adam: Torrey Pines, CA

Danielle and her mom came by to discuss wedding photography when Adam was deployed. Confident, fun, and fashionable I liked Danielle as soon as we started talking and was so excited to hear that she selected us to help capture their wedding day.

Once Adam returned, we met at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve in San Diego for some engagement photos. While we hiked the trails picking out fun spots for photographs, Danielle and Adam told me that they'd known each other since they were kids. Granted, they apparently didn't like each other all that much back then, but something changed and the two are now completely in love and excited about their plans together. Danielle and Adam - you two were so much fun to work with - thanks for a fantastic afternoon!!

Kim and Jimmy: warmth + joy + stunning San Diego

What can I say about Kim and Jimmy. It may be unprofessional, but what the heck I'm just going to say it: I love these two. Both are so genuinely positive that that people (myself included) are just drawn to them. And to see the two together, I even found myself getting a bit emotional during the heart felt speeches at the reception. With so much love and thought put into this day, and surrounded by supportive friends and family, this was a beautiful celebration for a truly beautiful couple. Thank you two so much for allowing Amy and me to be a part of it.

Kim and Jimmy were married at the beautiful St. Michael Catholic Church in San Diego.

After the ceremony we headed to Balboa Park to get some more photos.

A great moment - as we walked the bridal party through the Organ Pavillion at Balboa Park, a group of young students spontaneously started to applaud the newlyweds. See what I mean about magnetic personalities? Even strangers couldn't resist getting in on the celebration.

Kim and Jimmy's reception was held at the Ultimate Skybox in the San Diego Ballpark District. What a TREAT for their out of town guests (heck, even for the locals... and their photographers) to see San Diego like this. Absolutely stunning!

Kim made this gorgeous (and I understand delicious) cake herself! Nice work!!

Alicia and Nathan: fresh and fun in Berkeley, CA

We Eisenhowers just love Veronica. Veronica is my cousin Jesse's girlfriend and really is part of the family. When Amy mentioned that we had an opportunity to photograph Veronica's sister's wedding in the Bay Area, I was all over it. I hadn't met Alicia but I knew that if she had any of her sister's warmth and sweetness that we'd be lucky to work with her... and we were.

Alicia and Nathan were such a fantastic couple to photograph. Both are so good natured and genuine - even when things didn't go exactly as planned, they just rolled with it. But more than that, as you'll see from some of the images, these two are absolutely and completely in love.

Alicia and Nathan got ready in adjoining rooms at the historic Durant Hotel in Berkeley. Their ceremony and reception were held at the Brazilian Room at Tilden Regional Park.

I couldn't decide on my favorite shoe photo so I included another.

Gifts for the groomsmen

As we headed out the hotel, Amy and I couldn't resist using this hallway to get a few dramatic images of the beautiful Alicia.

Veronica created the unique and stylish invitations for Alicia and Nathan, depicting an artistic rendition of the local area.

Veronica's and Alicia's sister and mother created the floral arrangements. Here Jennifer makes some last minute adjustments.

We got a few formal photos before the ceremony.

No additional decor necessary - just look at the drama of the natural setting behind them. We so often photograph beach weddings, and as much as I love them this was a refreshing change. This is one of my favorite venues yet.

Thank you Veronica (left of Alicia) for asking us to be part of this day. I can't think of a better way to spend a weekend!

Samin & Matthew: elegance and laughter

As wedding photographers, we're often lucky to be able to capture the genuine connection between two people who don't just love each other, but who really like each other every bit as much. And sometimes we're fortunate to be able to photograph gorgeous details in beautiful settings. I'm happy to say that Samin and Matthew treated us to both of these with their elegant day at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, San Diego.

We started the day with Samin and her bridesmaids at the luxurious Se San Diego Hotel.

Next we joined the guys at the Organ Pavillion in Balboa Park to capture Samin and Matthew's "first look" and take some formal photos before the wedding.

I learned after the wedding that Samin's mother actually did the boquets and several of the arrangements. Truly exquisite work!

Melanie of Something Blue Weddings did a fabulous job of day-of coordination, pulling together all of the meticulously selected details that Samin and Matthew included in their wedding.

You know I'm a sucker for a sweet father daughter relationship. This was right before Samin's dad walked her down the isle.

Samin and Matthew decided to blend cultures with two wedding ceremonies. First they made their vows and exchanged rings at the Ceremonial Gate.

Next, the couple and guests walked to the Koi Pond for a traditional Persian ceremony.

And back to the reception in the Ceremonial Plaza. There were so many thoughtful and fun details that I had a tough time editing down for this post. In fact, I still posted a lot more images than I typically do.

Samin and Matt invited dance artist Lucia and her companion to entertain the guests at the start of the reception.

I've heard quite a few speeches by fathers of the bride, but this one was particularly entertaining... Samin's face might be an indication.

At the end of a full evening of partying, Samin and Matthew left in a gorgeous Rolls Royce provided by Simply Elegant Limousine.

Samin and Matthew, Dad and I really enjoyed spending the day with you and your loved ones. From a photographic perspective, your day was filled with such beautiful, fun imagery - it was a treat to be able to capture all of it for you. But more importantly, the two of you were fantastic to work with. You're both so light hearted and happy that it really made our jobs fun. Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of such a perfect day.

Little Miss Samantha

Many of my friends have kids. And I like kids. That said, I also travel a lot, which tends to add shall we say a different color to one's opinion of children... and the effort it takes to keep them entertained while on cross country flights. Now, in this context, I'd like to introduce you to Samantha. I had the pleasure of flying with Samantha and her mom (a good friend of mine) from Boston to San Diego. And before you roll your eyes thinking that my use of the word "pleasure" was sarcastic, I assure you it was not.

On quite a few occasions I have seen those "families with young children" boarding earlier than others, struggling to collapse strollers while juggling bags, bottles and babies as they attempt to squeeze into their seats as quickly and efficiently as possible. This time, I was with Samantha and her mom in the "families with young children" group, walking behind them as Samantha rode in front in her Baby Bjorn. And this is when I realized what a unique little girl she is. I watched as people passed the two of them - a look of distraction or worry or just plain grumpiness would transform into a silly grin as an old man or busy airline attendant caught a glimpse of Samantha smiling back. You know people with contagious laughs, Samantha has perhaps the most contagious little smile I've ever seen.

As you might have guessed, when my good friend asked if I could take some photos of Samantha I jumped at the opportunity. Oh, and in case you're wondering, she was great on the flight too.

Heather and Jermaine

It was a chilly April day, busy with family in town, when Jermaine suggested to Heather that the two of them catch the sunset in La Jolla. The sun had just barely set when he got down on one knee and asked Heather to marry him. A year later, to the day, the two returned to the same beach to take engagement photos. Believe it or not, it wasn't until they were preparing for the shoot that day that Heather remembered the date and the significance. What luck!

We were silly, laughing most of the time and they even sang to each other (a song from Sesame Street I believe) while strolling along the beach, as if I weren't even there. And I have to say, La Jolla Shores on a sunny Saturday isn't exactly the most serene or tranquil place to be, yet when the two of them looked at each other it was as if the rest of the world just melted away.

Bangkok: Bustling Markets and Glimmering Temples

As I mentioned in my last post, I had the opportunity to spend a weekend enjoying some of Bangkok while I was there for work. This was the second day with our tour guide, Pook and our plan was to see the train market and floating market.

Salt flats
On the way there, we pulled over to take some photos of the salt flats and the street side markets where they sell the salt in large bags.

Food Market (a.k.a. "Train Market")
First we went through the food area. Pook had us taste some local snacks.

And why do they call it the train market you ask? You can see that the market is actually on train tracks. If you haven't heard of this, perhaps you're wondering: but do trains actually come through? ...

Indeed they do! Within seconds awnings are pushed back and larger items are pulled in.

And within a minute the awnings return and it's back to shopping as usual.

Floating Market
I think others in the group knew what to expect here but I didn't. When they said "floating market" I pictured a barge where you have to take a boat out to shop. Not exactly. This series of canals are lined with stalls, while others sell goods from the small boats. You paddle (or motor) through, stopping whenever you see something you like.

We had a late morning snack of noodle soup. Yum. And have you ever tried eating soup with chopsticks, on your lap, while holding a big camera, on a small boat? Not easy. Although, while I did spill a little of the soup on my jeans, I assure you it was worth it.

After our boat ride we did a little more shopping at the entrance of the market. Talk about sensory overload! I love all of the colors.

Royal Palace and Temple
Next we headed back into town and took a river boat to the larger Royal Palace (again, I need to come back here to fill in the blanks on the actual names of some of these locations). But the thing that is so amazing about this palace is the level of detail. This huge golden stupa is entirely covered in small mosaic gold leaf and glass tiles.

And another close up of some of the detail. The amount of work it must have taken to complete these structures is unfathomable to me.

Beautiful Bangkok

Usually when I travel for work (ahem, the "day job") I don't bring my camera along because frankly, the inside of conference rooms just aren't all that interesting. But when work took me on a longer trip to Thailand of course I absolutely needed to bring my camera! Thanks to my colleague Jackie who lined up tours of Bangkok for those of us staying through the weekend, we were able to experience beautiful palaces, temple ruins and bustling markets.

Our meetings were held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bangkok (I know, fancy right?). The hotel was gorgeous right down to the simplest details, like these floating lotus flowers on a veranda.

We booked our excursions through Tours by Tong and our tour guide, Pook (pronounced "Poke") was excellent. She was so knowledgable (we later found out that she's a secondary school teacher on weekdays) and had a great sense of humor.

I'll definitely need to come back to fill in more specifics on the locations we visited. I have tickets and brochures to jog my memory. For now, I can tell you that the first stop was one of the Royal Palaces. These flowers were hanging outside a shrine near the entrance.

This is where our van was parked, right outside the palace. I was struck by the contrast between this simple fruit stand and the opulence we had just left.

Next we visited the Buddha.

A much older temple. After having visited the last one, it is easy to imagine a time when all of these Buddhas were also in tact and draped in yellow.

When you just look at the ruins it's tough to imagine how tropical this area actually is. I had to stop from time to time to capture some of this surrounding lushness.

They fell in love in high school and he gave her the opal promise ring. But being the responsible kids they were they decided to wait until they were more established in their lives before getting married. Each built their lives and careers and now years later, what started as a teenage crush has grown into a deep love and nurturing connection. Their families and friends would tell you that each is not completely whole without the other - so in tune with each other that they are unbeatable Cranium partners!

Sarah and Zach were married at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in San Diego.

We've seen some pretty cute ring bearers in the past, but this one absolutely melted my heart.

I love the way they look at each other.

A singer herself (a fantastic one as I understand) Sarah's ceremony wouldn't be complete without at least a little opera.

Janessa: Treasures & Beyond

Several months ago stylist extraordinaire Shannen and I wanted to do something that was quirky and fun to showcase Shannen's work. And when it comes to fun, Janessa is the perfect model. Janessa sings in bands, she's on a roller derby team, and she's got that great, classic pinup look. You're the coolest, Janessa - thank you for doing this with us.

We started off at Dick's and my favorite antique store in Poway and made our way to several spots where we were able to photograph Janessa in different looks and with her newly purchased treasures.

Pearl and Steve came to the folks' house to meet us before deciding on us as their wedding photographers. There they sat in the living room, both wearing Dr. Pepper t-shirts (I seem to remember that he likes the drink but she's not a huge fan - just likes the shirt). They answered our questions about their wedding day and politely chuckled at Dad's and my corny attempts at humor. While at first I worried we weren't hitting it off, I eventually realized that their dry humor and wit was actually right up my alley. If their friends and loved ones share the same attitude, I have a feeling this is going to be a fun wedding to photograph!

When it came to what they wanted to do for their engagement photos Pearl and Steve were completely open. Because Steve regularly plays volleyball at Mission Beach it seemed a logical choice of locations. We decided to meet them at Belmont Park in San Diego. This was a departure from the secluded (or secluded-looking) beach areas that we often use to photograph couples and actually, I really enjoyed the change of scenery. In fact I will likely use this spot again. I loved the fact that we were surrounded by so many people and so much color. It made for what I think were are fun and energetic photos.

Typically only one of us goes out on engagement sessions but Dad and I decided that, just for the fun of it, we'd do this shoot together. Here are some of my own favorites from that evening. Dad took even more.

Eisenhower Reunion 2010

Time for a more personal post. Meet my family... my big family... and actually, just one side of it. Meet the Eisenhowers!

A couple years ago, we attended a reunion in Reno. Well we all had such a great time that my grandmother Dede decided we should have another one in San Diego. And that we did. People gathered from all over the country and converged in San Diego (more specifically Poway Lake) to laugh, hug, kiss, eat, mingle, play, and... did I mention laugh?

Dad and I put the camera on a tri-pod and set the timer for this photo of the group that celebrated together. Click on it to see a much bigger version. Everyone who was at this event (including spouses, pets, kids and loved ones) were included in the group photo. And while it photographically may not be the best image that this camera has ever taken, it's still one of my favorites because of the many many people I love who are in it.

My cousins, Amy and Erin. You ladies are simply amazing - people magnets! And on the right - check out some of the decorations that Melissa put together for the event. Adorable!

Later that evening, we all met at the Doubletree Golf Resort in San Diego for an only slightly less casual dinner gathering. The people at the Doubletree were awesome to work with!

Crazy Waylond!

Dede kicks dinner off with a speach, thanking everyone for being a part of this fantastic day. She made us cry and she made us laugh... truly.

What's a party without some dancing? We thought of it too late to book one of our wedding DJ friends, so I stepped up and kept music going for the party. The PA and speakers have been stored in my garage since the family used to sing, probably more than 15 years ago. It was fun to dust it all off and find that it actually all still worked! We kept the music going, and people dancing, until it was time to clean up the room. And thank goodness for the wi-fi at the hotel because I was buying new songs on iTunes to put into my playlist as the evening progressed. Man, I have so much respect for all you DJ's out there. It's not so easy to keep a party going! (Not sure if it was Dad or Dick who took this shot)

When I find myself in a particularly philosophical mood, thinking about the things that are most important in life, love is at the top of the list. No matter where I go, no matter how much money I have, no matter where I work, no matter where I live, no matter how healthy I'm feeling, the connections with people I love will be with me, and a part of me. Thank you family, for being such a huge part of who I am. I love you.

Mishel & Theodore: elegance and pure happiness

When we walked through the doors of Mishel and Theo's suite at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in Downtown San Diego on Saturday July 3, 2010, I was first struck with Mishel's beautiful and warm smile. The second thing I noticed were a group of fantastic ladies (little ones included) whose sole desire was to make sure Mishel and Theo's day was as perfect as possible. Oh, and then of course there was also the beautiful suite itself.

You've heard people talk about a bride glowing on her wedding day. Well I think that Mishel personifies this - her eyes twinkling, her dimples in full force. And then there is her energy - that morning as we photographed all of the activity I could almost feel the butterflies myself, she was so excited to marry Theo.

The infectious, giddy smiles continued throughout their beautiful day, as the two were married at St. Joseph's Cathedral in San Diego, followed by a romantic and elegant reception at Los Willows in Fallbrook, CA.

Mishel hadn't yet decided which shoes to wear that day. But once she told me the story of how she was almost distracted by their cuteness when she wore them on the day he proposed, I was happy she selected the red "Y-not?" shoes. Is that appropriate or what!

I overheard Mishel explaining that morning that she really likes the look of a pop of color and that this drove her decisions for things like dress color, flowers, shoes... She sure implemented that idea beautifully didn't she?

I loved the simplicity of Mishel's bouquet. And there's that beautiful bride, herself. To look at her you wouldn't have had any idea how late we were running at this point. That confident smile doesn't look nervous or worried - only pure delight in the fact that in moments she'll be married to the love of her life.

The stained glass, artwork, arches, and columns at St. Joseph's Cathedral were just amazing.

To celebrate another side of their heritage, they drank out of a German wedding cup.

This is what these two looked like for most of the day - so happy, and so content to be together.

Mishel and Theo, I just have to say: I love how in love you two are. I know you'll be able to keep that happiness and spark alive for years and years to come. I can just imagine your future children and grandchildren pulling out your wedding album one day, laughing and smiling as they too experience the infectious joy and excitement that comes through in these images. Thank you so much for letting Dad and I help you capture it. Congratulations you two!

Sarah and JT : just for fun

It's not entirely clear who adopted who. But the fact of the matter is that when Sarah went to visit her friend Karen, she had no intention of leaving with a new family member. Yet, that is precisely what happened.

As I understand it, someone rescued him as a well-intended gift for one of Karen's ailing relatives. Unfortunately that plan fell through and the little guy's fate was unknown . . . that is, until Sarah walked into the room. Everywhere she went the dog followed. Any time she sat, he sat with her. He knew what she didn't yet know herself - that the two would one day be family. And that they are.

With practically ungroomable fur of at least a half-dozen colors, and with one ear perked up (the other down) little JT is perhaps the scrappiest little guy I've seen. In contrast, Sarah is classy and polished in her dress and heels. Together, they're magic: pure joy and love.

These photos were taken last week near Sarah's home in Irvine, CA.

Thanks to the wind, for a minute there we weren't sure who had the messier hair. But she got it under control. (whew!)

Joanne & Randy's joyful summer celebration

They'd known each other for years and even went to a high school Sadie Hawkins dance together. But as time went on they drifted apart... that is until they re-discovered each other. Now Joanne and Randy couldn't be happier, starting their new family surrounded by TONS of loving friends and family members.

This is one of those weddings where, as I scrolled through my images from the day, I kept finding myself grinning and even getting a little teary (I do that sometimes) remembering all of the joy and positive energy of the day. It's obvious that these two are so very loved, and I can certainly see why.

Joanne and Randy were married on June 26, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. And their reception was held at the Sheraton Harbor Island in San Diego.

Theresa Manalang and Christa Yabut did a beautiful job on the makeup. Florence and Rebecca of French Twist Salon did a stunning job on the hair for all of the ladies.

Did I mention that you two are fantastic? You two are fantastic!

Exquisite Blooms provided the gorgeous flowers! I just love the cheerful yellow against the cool, clean gray. Nice choice!

My intention was to get the shoes in focus and show the gang jumping in the background. But he looked so darned sassy I couldn't resist posting this one of Dad coaching for the photo. Lookin' good Pop!

Joanne and Randy planned this whole event in just a few months but you would NEVER have known it. From the candy bar, to the table cards for both adult and kids' tables, they thought of every little detail. Lynn Bautista of Savvy Bride helped to make sure everything was smoothly executed.

To kick off the party, each pair in the entourage put their own spin on the grand entrance.

Oh, now THIS was FUN! The guys did a special dance number for Joanne, and when I say they did a dance number, I really mean it. This was a rehearsed, choreographed routine to a mash-up of songs. The crowd, and of course Joanne, LOVED it!! Dad got some great shots of the whole group while I was able to get these fun close-ups of the performance and reactions. And yes, those are Beyonce moves that Randy and his guys are doing in the lower left two photos...

In fact, if you'd like to see it I just checked and sure enough, their whole dance number is posted on YouTube. Seriously impressive guys!

Joanne and Randy - We had a great time getting to know you guys and helping to capture your day. I'm so excited for the two of you and that little girl on the way because I'm sure that, just as you were on your wedding day, you will continue to be surrounded by love and joy as your family grows. Congratulations on a gorgeous day and I wish you a long, happy life together!

Oh, and be sure to call me for those maternity photos... (wink!)

Nancy's Flowers | Admiral Kidd Club

Last night we set up a booth at the Admiral Kidd Club's tasting fair. It's a great little event where couples who are planning to get married at one of the several beautiful San Diego on-base facilities can try out samples of the food provided. After they eat, they come upstairs for the 'bazaar' portion of the event. It's always nice to be able to chat with new couples and show off some sample albums. This time we even ran into several of our existing wedding clients. It's funny - even though we've only met with most of them once or twice at this point, it felt as though we were reuniting with friends we'd known for years. I don't think I've said it enough, but we really have the most fun clients!

Not far from where we were set up, our friend Nancy Stevens had some beautiful and creative bridal bouquets set up for display. I didn't want to miss the opportunity to take some detail photos of these beauties. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

On the left is Nancy with her helper (he's actually her good friend and future client's fiance). Everyone loves Nancy and her flowers. She's got such a great, warm energy - which shows in the hugs from just about every other wedding vendor in the room. And so generous, at the end of the evening she gave away many of her bouquets. Dad and I were even able to take some home for myself and for Mom. Thank you again, Nancy.

And on the right is Shirley, The Cake Lady. I'm definitely a fan of Shirley's cakes but hadn't met her in person before tonight. She and Dad have known each other for years, since he was new in the business. I've heard nothing but great things from brides about how easy she is to work with, and I can personally attest to the fact that her cakes are not only beautiful but super yummy! I want to plan a big party just so I can order one for myself!

Before we packed up, I had to get a photo of the patio of the Admiral Kidd Club. I LOVE the trend we're seeing of paper lanterns at weddings - and you can see here what a gorgeous impact they have.

Nicki and Chris party like rockstars in La Jolla

I had barely set foot in the door of Nicki and Chris' house when I realized that this would be a fantastic day. Nicki and her bridesmaids were so much fun that I almost wished I were a guest rather than their photographer... I did say "almost". I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on the opportunity to shoot this one.

Nicki and Chris met while playing soccer (how fitting that they should be married during the World Cup) and I understand both are quite good. We heard stories throughout the day about what an amazing goalie Chris is, and about how impressed he was with Nicki's legs the moment he saw "the new girl" on the field. We also learned that Nicki and her maid of honor Andrea met through soccer back when they were kids growing up in Virginia. Several of their friends are also fellow team mates, so as you might guess there was plenty of heckling and ribbing. But any teasing aside, these people were there for one very good reason: to party. It is so much fun to be at a wedding where it's so clear that everyone is there to have a great time. Laughter and silliness took over while everyone's positive energy and good feelings filled the air, surrounding the bride and groom.

Now I love love love to take photos of beautiful relationships. In fact, one of my favorite things to do in the whole world is to capture a moment that shows the connection between two people in love. And there was no shortage of that here. But I'd be lying if I didn't admit that this wedding was a pleasure to shoot for the physical beauty of it as well. Nicki and Chris put together not just a killer party, but also a gorgeous and elegant event. In fact, the toughest part about this blog post was selecting the photos. There were so many I wanted to share.

Check out this stunning dress by Demetrios Bride. The neckline was amazing on Nicki and the way it caught the afternoon sunlight was perfection.

Of course I had to get some photos of Nicki's beautiful shoes, but today we're featuring Baby Maddie's (first) shoes too.

The wedding and reception were held at what is now one of my favorite venues, The Martin Johnson House in La Jolla, California. As I mentioned in last week's post, this venue is like a blank canvas so it was interesting to see how different it looked as the backdrop for the last two weddings. For this celebration, the simple house and decks were completely transformed by the incredibly fabulous Arturo of Artquest Floral and Gifts. The delicious food was provided by UC San Diego Catering and the decadent cake was made by the amazing Shirley the Cake Lady.

Megan, Stephanie, Andrea, Michelle, Breanne and Joellyn - you ladies are absolutely amazing! I don't always leave a wedding feeling like I got to know the unique personalities of each bridesmaid, but this time I don't know... maybe it's because you're all so outgoing with such unique traits: edgy, witty, flirty, sweet, sporty and sassy, all tied up in a great big bow of gorgeous!

And don't even get me started on you Nicki - is there such a thing as too much fierceness for one photo? I think not!

Here's that cake I was telling you about. Not just beautiful, but so good! By the way, thank you Shirley for the treat. I know the mini-cake said "for Tony Eisenhower" but he was on a diet that night so I took it home and enjoyed it the next day with friends. We all LOVED it! (For the record, Dad did enjoy a piece of the wedding cake below at the reception)

Here are some photos taken later in the evening. DJ Gary B (check him out at www.feelmygroove.com) absolutely won the crowd over... and then some. In fact, when the evening was over Chris grabbed the mic specifically to thank Gary for such a great party, which says a ton about Gary.

Nicki and Chris - It's clear that you really wanted this to be a fantastic party and I'd say that you absolutely hit the mark on that one! Everyone who was there expected to have a great time and you two delivered. Side note: speaking of delivery, I should mention that Chris even ordered pizzas so his guests would be sure to leave on a full stomach after partying so hard. And as for the two of you, it's so much fun just being around you because it's obvious you don't just love each other, but that you're also buddies, and that really is awesome to see. I just know that as you grow old together you'll continue to have each other's backs.

Congratulations on finding each other. Happy marriage you two!

Ilia and David's ocean view celebration

I'm so happy that Ilia and David found each other - even against the odds. When the two met, they lived on opposite sides of the country. Both being successful professionals in their fields (Ilia a doctor and David now a lawyer) they were settled into their lives and skeptical at first that a relationship could work. But they fell in love from a distance and when David came out to meet her in person, a single date turned into a 10-day holiday together where they got to know each other, and where David had an opportunity to meet many of the important people in Ilia's life. Well, they both passed that test and David moved out to San Diego to start his life with Ilia.

Now, just to see them together, it's as if two lost puzzle pieces came together to form a union that was meant to be. I love the way that David looks at Ilia, and I love the way that Ilia smiles back in his direction.

Ilia and David were married on the cliffs of La Jolla at the Martin Johnson House, located within the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. They prepared for the ceremony at their beautiful home in Pacific Beach.

Ilia made sure to tell David when they met that she was a "package deal" with this little princess.

While I photographed Ilia at the house, Amy went to the wedding venue to take some photographs of the setup. The Martin Johnson House is like a blank canvas - a simple house with large terraced decks and a breathtaking ocean view. Ilia and David's family and friends transformed it into a cheerful, yet romantic paradise filled with flowers. Amy captured this photograph of a humming bird enjoying one of the additions.

Back at the house the other flowers were delivered. David decided against having a boutonniere, so this one was worn by Ilia's father.

I'm so happy we had the opportunity to capture the first moment that David saw Ilia in her dress.

The marine layer started to roll in and while during the ceremony the sky might not have been as blue as Ilia and David thought it would be, the end result was perfect. The way the sun came through those filtered clouds to light up the flowers was absolutely magical.

During the reception, several of Ilia and David's family and friends toasted the happy couple. I really enjoyed getting to know Ilia and David even better after hearing what their loved ones had to say about them. Honestly, what a fun and witty group of people!

Amy and I both had such a great time - on the way home we talked about what a great crowd this was, and how much positive energy we felt from everyone who helped celebrate. Ilia, your parents and your grandmother are inspirational. David, you were right; your sister is such a funny and warm person and she immediately made me feel welcome. In fact, every guest I encountered was just a joy to meet. Believe it or not, the party was so much fun I was actually surprised when the band announced the last song.

Ilia & David's Torrey Pines engagement shoot

We met Ilia and David at the bridal bazaar in Del Mar a couple months ago. When I got word that they had selected us to photograph their wedding I was thrilled. I immediately remembered the two of them from the show, asking plenty of thorough and analytical questions, all the while relaxed and laughing... my kind of people.

For their engagement session they chose Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego and I'm so glad they did! Having lived in San Diego for so long, I can't believe I'd never driven up to the pines to explore any of the many hiking trails available up there. As you can see from the photos, this location was perfect and gave us so much variety.

But what I'm sure will be even more obvious than the beautiful setting is what a great connection these two have. So much laughter, so many genuine smiles, so many romantic moments. Ilia and David clearly have a great time together and I can hardly wait to shoot their wedding next weekend!

the fabulous J*

I stumbled across Jasmine Star last year while researching options for updating our website. Website design and hosting service SHOWIT uses the J* site as one of their examples. I saw her site and started following her blog, which I find to be a great source of inspiration in so many ways. She has a very successful business, her images are beautiful, and Jasmine herself is such a dynamic, yet warm person. She is well known in the wedding photography industry for her fresh images and the fearlessly open candor of her posts.

So why go to a workshop? Dad and I have been photographing weddings for quite some time now so we certainly aren't rookies when it comes to wedding photography. But that doesn't mean we're not always looking for ways to improve and grow our business. So when I learned that Jasmine would be conducting a workshop where she discusses in great detail the things that have made her successful, I jumped at the opportunity.

As part of the workshop, she took the group out on a shoot where she showed us how she poses couples to create images that fit in with her own unique style or brand. She then encouraged us to do the same.

Models Carlie and Gabriel were absolutely fantastic. These former clients of Jasmine's were perfect for the shoot: classically beautiful yet playful. Photographers themselves, I had seen and admired their website and photography before but didn't make the connection until pulling up the link to write this post. Their work is uber-fun and so creative. Here they are, looking stunning as they wait for instruction from the group.

So lovely.

I am so pleased I was able to attend the workshop and have renewed excitement about the future of our photography business.

Valerianne is having a baby! (take 2)

A little over two years ago I took some photographs of my beautiful friend Valerianne when she was expecting Baby Cole. We've since gotten together for some family photos and portraits. Now it's been about two and a half years since our first maternity photos and Valerianne is expecting baby #2. I can hardly wait to meet this new little person! (Valerianne and Craig don't know yet if Cole will be getting a baby brother or sister)

Valerianne suggested "hold the umbrella up, Cole" and here's what he did. Such a cutie!

Joann and Vinny's traditional wedding tea ceremony

Several years ago Dad and Amy photographed Emily and Ken's traditional Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony and Reception. Last Saturday Amy and I were honored to be able to do the same for Emily's brother Vinny and his beautiful bride Joann.

We met Joann and Vinny early in the morning at the Lake San Marcos Resort where they were getting dressed for the big day. Joann was stunning in her red dress and (I just have to use the word 'adorable') red Franco Sarto shoes.

After taking a few fun photos at the hotel, we made our way to Vinny's parents' house for the tea ceremony. Here are a few images from the ceremony. Thanks Amy for helping to capture these.

After the tea ceremony, Vinny and Joann were led up to the traditional Nuptial Chamber which had been prepared for them by Vinny's mother. Here the two of them ceremoniously shared red bean and tea.

Joann then changed into her western style bridal gown for the reception.

The reception was held at Pearl Chinese Cuisine restaurant in Rancho Bernardo. Here guests are signing a banner as they enter.

The pink floral arrangements were beautiful against the restaurant's gold motif.

Vinny's long time friend, The Magnificent Chi, entertained the crowd during lunch with his humorous magic routine. Chi was a whole lot of fun and really kept the party going.

After such a long day of ceremony and celebration, Joann and Vinny hung in there for a few more photographs at Webb Lake Park outside of the restaurant. I'm so happy we were able to capture these images of Joann in her gown with her flowers. She is just so classy and elegant, isn't she?

Lia & Darryl's garden estate wedding

Lia and Darryl were married at the Twin Oaks Garden Estate in San Marcos, California. We arrived a little early in order to get our bearings in this location because neither of us had shot there before. And what a treat! Even without all of the wedding decorations in place this venue is just filled with beautiful little touches - both indoors and out. Here are a few of the images I got before Lia arrived for hair and make-up.

Not only was the place full of inspiration and character, but the people were fantastic to work with as well. I understand this team often works with their own photographer, but they graciously welcomed us as though we've been shooting there for years. Thank you so much for that!

Being an animal lover, I couldn't resist getting a shot of the owner's dog, Buddy. He wandered the grounds freely throughout the morning but disappeared when the bridal party arrived.

I wasn't able to join Dad when he shot Lia and Darryl's engagement photos so I didn't have the opportunity to meet them before we photographed their wedding day. From their engagement photos I could see that they were strikingly attractive: petite Lia with cute, short hair that highlights her big, beautiful eyes and Darryl with his sincere smile and wavy locks. But I didn't really know anything else about them, which always makes for an interesting first-meeting.

At 11am Lia dashed past me from her car to the bridal suite, struggling to carry a huge garment bag, offering a quick "hi Julie" on her way in. I had to pick the pace up to a light jog in order to follow her around as she darted from place to place, preparing all of the carefully selected details of the day. So right off the bat it was clear that this woman had excellent taste, knew what she wanted, and was attentive to every last detail (a woman after my own heart).

As the day progressed I got to know Lia and Darryl just a little bit better. I learned that they have been together for quite some time, that they recently bought a house together, that the two of them had adopted little Christian, and that they had a great group of friends who were excited to be there with them to celebrate the their love. I also couldn't help but notice that Lia was happiest and most relaxed when she was with Darryl. Together they are absolutely lovely and I feel lucky to have been able to photograph them.

Lia and Darryl incorporated so many elegant and creative details into their day. I was particularly impressed with the flower arrangements. As it turns out these elegant flowers were done by a local high school ROP group. Cool, huh?
(I'll try to get the name of the school and revise this post soon)

Can we say gorgeous?

As I mentioned before, there were so many things to love about the Twin Oaks Garden Estate. Among them is this 1891 schoolhouse-turned-bridal suite. I loved the light and details in this beautiful room. I wish Lia and I could have spent another hour just shooting her in that stunning dress in various spots around the room.

The small garden ceremony was so sweet and personal. Lia and Darryl wrote their own vows.

This opulent reception tent is also on the Twin Oaks grounds. I loved how fresh and clean everything looked. The orange flowers were perfect - so cheerful during the day and so warm in the evening.

The cake was made by a close family friend (and I hear it was deee-licious) - darn diet!

So the other day I was driving home from a friend's house when I looked off to my left and saw a beautiful, golden field. The sun was low in the sky so the grass glowed bright yellow as it swayed in the breeze. I immediately thought "I need to find someone who I can photograph here!"

Well lucky for me, only two days later my good friend Julia wrote me a note saying she would be in town for a few days. When I asked her if we could take some photos of her during her visit she graciously agreed.

Julia and I have been friends since I was 11 and she was 12. We had birthdays a day apart. I'll always remember that year as being the year when I turned 12 on May 13th and she turned 13 on May 12th. We were such good friends. We went to the mall, rode our bikes, did sewing projects together (thanks to her mom's help), and we sang together. I stood by Julia as her maid of honor when she got married, then she moved away with her husband to start a whole new set of adventures.

Now, even after all these years, when we see each other it's as if no time has passed. I know people say that all the time - it really is the case with us. We chat and laugh like we never stopped spending every day together. It's just effortless. I always imagined that is what it would be like to have a sister. In fact, I've often called Julia my sister just because it's the best description of our friendship.

But I digress... :-)

So as I was saying, I selected the location and Julia agreed to be my model. She came over to the house, we did some catching up, we selected the clothes she would wear for the photographs, then I looked out the window... at heavy, dark clouds . . . and rain.

Okay, not exactly the same golden field that I originally had in mind, but she was in from out of town and this was our one opportunity so we both agreed to roll with it. We grabbed a red umbrella and went to that same spot anyway. Here are a few of my favorites.

Just for fun, here's a shot Dad took of us with our friend Melodie when Julia and Melodie graduated from high school. Tell me Julia doesn't look exactly the same!

Julia, thank you for spending the afternoon with me and for traipsing through tall grass in open toed shoes in the rain for me. 'Good sport' doesn't begin to describe you on this one! I can hardly wait until our next shoot - maybe that one will be a little dryer.

Amy and Jeremy brought the kids over to hang out while Jeremy and Dick cleaned out our garage (thanks Jeremy for motivating him!!) And since Christina is off on a trip to Morocco, Mike hung out with us too. It's great to have family and friends over... especially when Dick does all the preparation. Not only did he pick up the house before everyone arrived, he even made us grilled cheese sandwiches.

Ahh - good friends and grilled cheese. Is there really any better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

Sonovia and Nick

Sonovia and Nick met in high school more than ten years ago and have been together ever since, through thick and thin. Dad described them as being "a dynamite couple" and honestly, I'm having a hard time coming up with better words. These two are amazing. As I'm sure you'll be able to tell from the photos, they have such a beautiful, genuine connection and they're hilariously fun (as are their friends and family).

The details were beautifully selected and executed, and yet Sonovia never had a stressed look on her face. You could tell just by looking at the two of them that they weren't sweating the small stuff in the least. Instead, they were truly enjoying their day and their loved ones - soaking in every precious moment of it.

Sonovia and Nick were married at the El Camino Country Club in Oceanside, California. The club was responsible for most of the details including the gorgeous flower arrangements.

Nick changed into an orange zoot suit for the reception. It was a hit! And get this - they left the reception and went straight to the airport for their Jamaican honeymoon and Nick said he was really going to wear the suit on the plane. Nice!

When Andrew's mother Mary asked for family photos, Dick and I were thrilled that our friends Andrew and Annie came to us. The setting at Balboa Park was comfortably cool and bright as we walked the gardens and paths to take photos of the family. In fact, I can't think of a better way to have spent last Saturday morning.

As you can see, they're certainly cute kids. But Matteo and Sofia were well-behaved too! (that's a nice bonus for family photos)

We had an absolute blast shooting Lynn and Steve's wedding. Both active Navy, they met on the way to Iraq. Four years later, their two families came together for a beautiful celebration of their connection. All day long we laughed (and I even got a little teary here and there) as we captured the party. Even days later as I scrolled through the images from that day, smiles kept taking over my face.

Thanks you two for allowing us to be part of your day. We had a great time!

Lynn and Steve were married at the Admiral Kidd Club in San Diego. We always enjoy photographing weddings here, but they've recently made some really nice updates to this venue which made it even better than it was before.

I LOVE that they sang to each other while they danced.

I'll admit that it can sometimes be unnerving showing up to photograph a wedding when I haven't yet met the couple. But I have to say, the moment Dad and I arrived at the salon where Amanda was getting her hair done I was immediately struck by what a sweet, warm person Amanda is.

Next we followed her to the hotel where she and her bridesmaids were getting ready, and the rest of the group was every bit as lovely. Amanda had a large entourage with four bridesmaids and four junior bridesmaids (now her little sisters-in-law). Each was so kind and considerate of the other and it was truly a joy to spend the day with them.

Amanda and Nathan were married in the Ellipse Chapel at Point Loma Nazarene University.

Amanda and Nathan decided to see each other before the ceremony so that we could get formal photographs done without making guests wait. This could not have been a more ideal plan on this day, particularly because the rain started to pour during the ceremony. Had we waited until after we wouldn't have been able to take these bright outdoor photos.

The reveal: we brought the two of them outside to capture the moment when Nathan first saw Amanda in her dress. I think you can see that not only are they great people, they're also a whole lot of fun.

This was taken right before Amanda and her father made their ceremony entrance. I'm a sucker for a sweet father-daughter relationship.

The kiss.

After a short break the group celebrated at the Oceanview Room on the submarine base in Point Loma. The wet and windy weather prevented us from being able to sit outside to enjoy the stunning views, but the party inside didn't miss a beat. This gang kept the dance floor filled!

Amanda's sister designed all of the silk boquets and reception decorations. The 'tea party' theme was particularly cute, with tea cups and topiaries at each table. Amanda and Nathan also gave a special tea bag and message to each of their guests.

a.k.a. a love letter to my iPhone

There are schools of thought that say a photographer should bring her camera everywhere she goes. Well... as much as I agree that's a great idea, I really don't follow that school of thought as much as I probably should (my camera is a bit of a beast). However, I do bring my iPhone with me most places I go. Consequently, I get shots of random life-stuff from time to time and will post them on Facebook. I just took a look at that small collection of thumbnails and it made me smile.

By the way, I'm not going to pretend that the idea to post iPhone thumbnails was all my idea. I follow photographer Jasmine Star's blog and she posted her iPhone photos of a recent New York trip.

What a great day! Dick, Mom, Dad and I all took the Amtrak to San Juan Capistrano for Mom's Birthday lunch. It was dreary and wet in San Diego that morning, but after just a short ride north we were greeted with crisp air, blue skies and white puffy clouds.

I think we take for granted what beautiful colors we can see in February.

I had the privilege of hand-delivering Nicole and Sean's album to Nicole's mom this weekend. Before I handed it over, I took a few photos of it. I love the elegant simplicity. And the splash of red on the inside cover was Nicole's idea - brilliant!

Deanna and Jim are two of the most delightful people I've had the pleasure to work with. They were both positive and good-humored, even when the rain started to pour just before their guests arrived. Thankfully, throughout the day the clouds parted for breaks in the rain every time we needed it.

The two were married at the College Avenue Baptist Church in San Diego. The reception was held at Tom Hams Lighthouse.

One of the best parts about shooting a wedding is the back-stage pass I get as the ladies prepare for the big moment. After all these years and all of these brides there are certain pieces of advice that I can comfortably give anyone who is planning her big day. Here's one of them.

Tip: Be sure to surround yourself with your own personal cheerleaders!

Those of you who know me know that I'm a huge fan of my cousin Amy and her artwork. She is without a doubt the most creative person I know and I'm constantly inspired by her. So you can imagine what an honor it was when she asked me to shoot her maternity photos.

As you can see from the images, not only is she extremely artistic, but she's also a classic beauty. And don't even get me started on Waylond. At just three years old he was so well behaved today and he looked great in the photos!

Today's session was more fun than I could possibly put into words. I can hardly wait to take more... when we'll collaborate again for family photos after Rylan is born.

Kumiko & Wisler

On the day after Christmas Dad and I headed up to Orange County to photograph Kumiko and Wisler's wedding. This is one very special couple and we enjoyed every minute of this absolutely gorgeous event. The two decided to have an intimate ceremony, bringing together their two families and just a few friends. The ceremony was held under a gazebo in Laguna Beach and their reception was at the St Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point, CA.

As you'll see for yourself in the photos below, the connection between Kumiko and Wisler is such a sincere and touching one. Kumiko was absolutely breathtaking in her organza dress while Wisler was the epitome of cool in his tux. All in all, this was a photographer's dream wedding. And the guests were fantastic too! They really made us feel like part of the family.

Thank you Kumiko and Wisler for allowing us to photograph your day. It truly was a pleasure.

Susana & Doug

... are expecting a little angel. We had such a great time on this shoot. I love how playful Doug and Susana are together. It makes me happy to think of a little girl growing up surrounded by this much love and laughter.

While I've only just met the lovely Susana, Doug and I go way back. Since junior high school in fact. As I was taking photos of these two, and seeing what a great husband and father-to-be Doug has become, I felt a great sense of joy. It occurred to me that if, at fourteen, someone were to tell me that when I grew up I'd be taking maternity photos of Doug's wife, I would have smiled. It is moments like these that make me so grateful that I am able to do this now.
