Oh sure, they laugh. They laugh a lot. They're silly and fun, and at least from where I stand, laughing appears to be a cornerstone of who they are as a couple. Check out their engagement photos and I think you'll agree. But when Lana walked down the aisle, all smiles, her eyes met David's. There was no laughing now. It was as if everyone else disappeared, and the two of them were alone, having a conversation that the rest of us could only guess at: filled with pride at what a beautiful woman he is marrying, happy to be in this place at this time, concerned for her happiness during each step of her journey down the aisle. Sure, these two may be silly together, but don't let that fool you, they are in some serious love!
David and Lana celebrated with their family and friends at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in San Diego. Their beautiful tropical and ocean-themed details looked as if they were made for the venue. And their coordinator, Roni, who helped Lana to pull it all together on the big day, made it all look effortless.
The view of the wedding venue from Lana's room as she prepared.
I'm loving the non-traditional sapphires in her wedding band.
And of course, we can't leave out her 'other' wedding ring.
Lana's bridal bouquet was overflowing with tropicals and succulents.
Lana's dad wanted in on the "something old, something new..." tradition - so he gave her some "old" briefs. I'm thinking Lana's dad had a pretty big influence on her goofy sense of humor. (I can relate)
As we started taking some photos near one of the many tropical ponds at the Catamaran, we discovered a family of ducks. We were happy that we able to take the photos in front of these cuties without chasing them away.
The morning was a bit overcast, but as if on cue, the sun came out and marine layer cleared just in time for the ceremony.
Lana's father waits for her to enter the ceremony at the foot of the stairs. No, I didn't ask him to strike this pose. This was all him!
She entered to the theme of 'Gone With the Wind'
So many appropriate descriptions here: pure joy, radiant, glowing, and like I said earlier... completely in love.
In a change from the traditional, they read their vows together. It was meaningful and beautiful.
David had a little surprise hidden behind his jacket.
Ahh - so sweet. Even at weddings I can't resist getting a baby bump shot. She's a beautiful mommy-to-be.
What a gorgeous couple!
And as we headed back to the reception, Lana and David couldn't resist getting in on the volleyball game in progress.
Their choreographed first dance was superb!
Yes, that is the look of some genuine embarrassment as the best man gives his speech.
Lana surprised David with the mid-reception arrival of a cotton candy machine. He loved it, as you can see! Kudos to Roni the coordinator for making that happen.
When the fireworks show started that evening, Lana and David snuck off with Dad to get a few dramatic photos by the water. I stayed behind and got this one.
Lana and David - thank you so much for asking us to photograph your wedding. Few things are more rewarding than having the opportunity to capture real joy and laughter, and we had so much opportunity to do so with you two. What a great couple you two are, and what a privilege to be able to help you remember this beautiful day as you grow old together!
Be sure to check out Dad's blog for more great photos of Lana and David's wedding!
